Well, it was a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day for Tanner this week. He went in to have allergy testing done and to no one's surprise he is allergic to EVERYTHING! The first test were done on his back with a scratch test. The biggest offenders were sage brush and juniper. No big deal for a kid that loves to lay in it while he is hunting!
Next he had to have about thirty shots in his arm. This revealed high allergy to cats, horses, dogs, mold, dust mites, grass, weeds, really anything you can name he is allergic to it to some degree or another.
So one of the ways to treat them is with a Kenalog steroid shot. The problem is you can only have them once every six months and they start losing their effectiveness after three months. So the long term solution is immunotherapy. The idea is that you put the things you are allergic to into your body until it builds up an immunity to them. You can go get a shot once a week for three to five years which Tanner thought would be simply impossible. It was also the option that insurance pays for. Figures.
Tanner's week did end on a good note. He asked his good friend, Kelsey, to the Homecoming dance. I forgot to get a picture of the way he asked. He got some diapers and filled them with crushed up Baby Ruth candy bars and wrote a note that said, "It would be the 'shiz' if you went to homecoming with me." I realized later that we should have put "I would poop my pants if you went to homecoming with me." But "shiz" is what the kids are saying now days.
She answered the next day by giving him a twelve pack of Mountain Dew with a note that said, "Tanner, I 'Dew' wanna go to homecoming with you!"
