We went to Sawmill again for our traditional Labor Day weekend camping trip. We decided to wait and go Friday morning instead of trying to get out there late Thursday night. I would have thought it would have made it less crazy trying to get everything ready, but no, I still ended up forgetting stuff. The most important thing was the chicken for the Sunday dinner that I was in charge of for the whole camp. So as soon as we unloaded our trailer Layne and I headed back toward Howe to try and get phone service. We only got a few miles down this road full of sharp rocks when one of them took a bite out of one of our tires.
We have had this truck for four years and have never had a flat tire. So Layne was trying to figure out how to get the spare out from under the truck bed. He didn't have any tools, so he was pounding it with a rock and being very frustrated. I said a little prayer and will take credit that he then was saw the hole in the bumper and got out the instructions. What a concept, instructions! He was so thrilled when he figured out that the tool that is with the jack actually goes through the hole and cranks down the tire. He thought that was the most ingenious invention ever!
Once we got the tire changed we headed back towards town and it would have been at least 30 minutes before we would have gotten cell phone service. So Layne decided we would stop at one of the few homes along the way and see if they had a land line. (Does anyone have those anymore?) After our third stop we finally found someone home and he did have a land line! I called my sister-in-law, Leisa, and they were able to bring the chicken and fruit that I had forgotten. Whew!
The rest of the weekend was very nice. It rained the first night, but only while we were sleeping. So it was nice to have it wet down all the the dirt.
Crash loves going with us. When he sees Layne hooking up the trailer he is ready to jump in. The kids were having fun throwing sticks for him to fetch. They kept getting bigger and bigger to see how much he could handle.
Mackay and Karlee had to help him pick this one up at first. But then ran away with it.
Grandma Terry went with us and we all enjoyed our time around the camp fire.
This was the newlyweds first camping trip as a married couple. Daren and Vonell let them use a trailer they bought for their married kids to use this year. It was nice not to have too many people using our facilities.
Count on Zak to cheese it up!
Karlee and Mackay love playing by the creek and always make it their mission to build a fort in the willows.
