Layne's Salmon Hunt

If the leaves are turning than that must mean Layne is hunting. 'Tis the season. This tree is in our front yard and we just love the bright red color.

Every year Layne goes up to Salmon with his brother, Daren, and brother-in-law, Kade. Usually Tanner goes along and whoever else they can convince to join them. But this year Tanner had to stay home because he had already missed three days for his surgery.

These deer were just outside their camp. I guess they knew they were save because the guys were going for bucks. (I don't know why they underline is on, and can't figure out how to get it off...grrr.)
Here is my might hunter. What beautiful country.
Home sweet home for a week. Luckily Daren has this great wall tent, where they can stay warm and dry. It was almost too nice for them this year. On the good sign it meant they didn't have the problem with mice being everywhere in their tent, but on the bad side, they didn't see any elk because it hadn't snowed and they hadn't come down yet.
So when Layne saw this little three point buck he took what he could. The bummer was after he shot it he saw a bigger one that was about a 4X5. Figures! If you look really closely in the background you can see another deer checking out his friend, hanging from the tree. Probably saying, "Sucker!"

The other good part of not seeing any elk was that they decided to come home a day early. So that made me happy to see my man sooner than I expected. And we will have some deer steaks and jerky in the freezer. So it was a win-win.
