Labor Day 2010

Sawmill- what a view!

We had another fun Labor day camp out at Sawmill. We were lucky this year because it didn't snow or rain. The only thing we had to deal with was the wind. We got there Friday afternoon and everyone was trying to get Karlee to learn how to ride her cousin, Mackay's dirt bike. She didn't want anything to do with it. They kept telling her that she would love it once she tried it. But she refused. I told them to leave her alone. Her not wanting to ride a motorbike was only going to save me money. But before too long Layne had her on the bike with him. He spent a few minutes working with her then remembered that the kids always did better when one of their uncles worked with them instead of their dad. So Kade got on behind her and took her around the field next to the campground. He was very patient and now she has got the feel for it so she isn't scared to death of it. But she wasn't jumping for joy saying how much she wanted a bike for herself either. So I hope it stays that way. I didn't have my camera so my sister-in-law, Leisa, took some pictures with her camera but when I copied them to my flash drive they didn't all transfer. So I will add more later.

The boys love the dirt bike trails and went on a five hour ride on Saturday. The rest of us stayed in camp and played games and read. Sunday was a day of rest and relaxation and trying to keep out of the wind. Tanner and his Aunt Vonell were giving each other a hard time around the campfire. Vonell threatened to take Tanner down and he said she would have to catch him first, and that he could easily outrun her. So she took after him and he took off running. He only got about twenty yards when all of a sudden he got clothes lined in the calf by the long dog chain that Bo was hooked on to. It was like it all happened in slow motion. He went face down and his head whip lashed back. Vonell was right behind him and was laughing so hard she could hardly ask if he was all right. The whole camp was in hysterics. Tanner was not in such a good mood. I played the good mom and asked if he was all right before I hid my chuckle. That will teach him not to disrespect his elders!

Monday the boys decided to take another bike ride. They rode from Sawmill over to Big 8 Mile. It was quite a long ride and took them over an hour just to find the right trail. They said it was some incredibly beautiful country. On their way back they came up over a ridge and came up to a group on horses. Most of the guys on horses just kept going. But one held back and just ripped into the guys telling them to turn their bikes off. They couldn't even see the horses until they were right on top of them. But this guy just ripped into them, telling them he was going to shoot them all in the head and using the f-word every other word. Kade asked if that was the only word he had in his vocabulary. His horse was being skittish because it wanted to follow the other horses. But this guy just had to stay back and swear at every one of them as they came over the ridge and threaten that if one more bike came he was going to kill them all. Finally Daren just told him that he didn't own the trail and to just keep moving. The boys waited about 15 minutes so he could have some time to get down the trail. When they finally got back on the trail they were just waiting to be ambushed. But I think he finally realized what a jerk he was and how much trouble he could be in for threatening to kill them and he must have taken off in the trees because they didn't see him again. So other than being threatened with their lives it was an uneventful trip and no one was injured which is always the sign of a successful ride.
