We are in the middle of another wrestling season. This one seems to be more jam packed with meets and tournaments than I remember. But that is probably because it is Zak's senior year and we have traveled to a lot more of them than we have in the past. They really have been busy though. They have had a tournament every weekend in January. This week alone they will wrestle four days. Zak says, "We sold our souls to Coach Eckman for this season."
Tanner hasn't had as many chances to wrestle because we have three heavy weights on our team and he is last on the totem pole. But he has done well for it being his freshman year. He likes to remind Zak that he has won more than Zak did his freshman year. This is a great way to charm big brother.
Zak has done pretty well considering his two bad knees and the fact that his back goes out nearly every time he wrestles. The team has gone to some big tournaments and done pretty well for being such a small school. They went to Buhl, Aberdeen and the Tiger Grizz tournaments. They tied with Bonneville for 16th place out of 32 schools at Tiger Grizz. So I thought that was pretty impressive. Zak took 10th place. He won two and lost two. Brian Rhodehouse is at 215 and took 3rd place and Brock Banta is at 130 and took first place. So that definitely helped our ranking.
Zak figures he only has to beat out the other freshman heavyweight from our school in order to go to state and if he doesn't do that he will really have to bury his head in the sand. He thinks he should be able to get at least 6th place at state. So we will see if his body will hold up and take him at least that far if not better. So we will keep our fingers crossed from him and the rest of the team to do well.
