On April 9th, Zak had surgery on both of his knees. Dr. Gregory Biddolph scoped them and did a bilateral release so that the kneecap would slide over to the correct position. This picture is right before he went into surgery. The medication had just kicked in and he was very "happy." Zak went through the surgery very well. I was surprised at how smoothly everything went. He went into surgery at 9am and we were leaving the hospital at 12:30. The worst part was getting him into the van. He bumped his knee and that sent him reeling with pain. We went straight to the pharmacy to get the pain pills but he was white as a ghost and thought he was going to throw up. Once he got some food in him he was much better.
He had drains that collected the fluid that stayed in over the weekend. He was on crutches for a few weeks. That was probably the part he hated the worst of the whole thing was the crutches. He kept his knees wrapped for support. Overall everything went really well. I guess the big test will come this fall when he starts football. He still has a hard time kneeling but it hasn't stopped him from riding his motorcycle.
