The only request Karlee had for her birthday was to go ice skating, since she had never been before. We were going to go to a pond in Rigby, but it was too warm and started to melt. So we went to the ice skating rink at Tautphus Park on the Saturday before her birthday.
Karlee invited Brilee to come along. Neither of them had ever done it before. Brillee caught on pretty quick. But Karlee soon figured out that it isn't as fun as it looked. We weren't very prepared. We should have worn thicker socks. The skates were really uncomfortable and were really digging into our ankles.
It's a good think we came to the rink instead of the pond so that Karlee could hang on to the wall ...all the way around ;)
Luckily there were resting points along the way too...
Layne took Shay for a spin around the ice. All the kids were pretty amazed that Mom & Dad could hold their own on the ice. Layne is much better than me, but I didn't do too bad.
Zak & Shay were good sports to come along, but it wasn't really their idea of a fun time either.
Tanner did it a few years ago with the young men and knew he didn't need to do it again.
I got to revert to my teenage dream and finally have a boy grab me around the waist and push me around the rink. Fun, fun, fun!!!
We only lasted about thirty minutes on the ice by the time all of our feet were feeling bruised and bloody. Afterwards we killed some time at the mall and then went to Sizzler for dinner.
Shay made these pretty cupcakes for Karlee. She cut marshmallows on a diagonal and then shook them up in a bag of glitter. So fun!
Zak & Shay got her a basketball. She has been enjoying her time on a winning team this season.
Her actual birthday, January 29th, was on Tuesday. It would be her first night at Young Womens, so we had to hurry through our celebration. A new shirt and skirt...
Snow boots!
A cute new top from Grandma Terry
12 candles....make a wish!
Snow pants and gloves, for many more sledding days ahead.
Just as we were serving up the cake the young women came to "Bee-nap" Karlee as the newest Beehive in the Young Women's. They went to one of the leader's homes and learned to make bread. She came home with a small loaf and had lots of fun.
While she was gone, Grandma Terry and I set up this new full size bed in her room. She has been sleeping in a twin and had asked for a bigger bed for Christmas, but hadn't mentioned it since then. I have to give her credit, the only thing she asked for was ice skating. So it was kind of fun to surprise her with this.
When she got home I told her to go and try on the new clothes she got for her birthday. She opened the door and yelled, "Wow!" Mission accomplished.
Happy Birthday Karlee!!!
