We had another plentiful Christmas at the Terry house this year. We added a stocking to our rack. Shay's stocking had to share a hook with Zak, put it still help up fine.
Zak and Shay spent the night with the Riley family since they still have a little kid to make it really fun. Karlee wasn't willing to wait for them to come around nine, which turned into ten since Zak went duck hunting with his in-laws. So she texted us at seven asking if we could get up and open presents. Since she is our "little girl" we agreed.
These are the new "footy" pajamas Karlee got to open on Chrstimas Eve.
We had lots of "big" packages this year! I got creative with the wrapping and used a table cloth for one of them...
My Vanna White presentation of our Christmas tree, and Santa's haul.
Karlee got a blinged out new cell phone that has a keyboard for texting, so she was a pretty happy girl.
Tanner got a new phone too since the screen on his last phone was cracked. And yet Mom and Dad are still using phones that are three to four yeas old. Oh, the sacrifices we make for our kids....
The boys all got a different kind of Polo cologne in their stockings.
I am kind of a mean mom. Tanner asked for a duck decoy, but because his other request ate up the budget I got him a plastic duck head to put on this truck antenna. He can't say I don't get him everything he asks for! Karlee asked for a French Bulldog. That definitely wasn't going to happen! So she got a little plastic dog, that turned out to be a pug, but still the closest she was going to get to any kind of dog at all!
Here is my cozy new coat that Layne picked out for me. I love it!
Layne got a book about the 7 tipping points that saved the world.
Clothes, clothes and more clothes.
This girl is easy to please. Paper and colored pencils since she loves to draw.
Tanner got Polo "Sexy" because well, isn't it obvious?
My sister, LarRene, made Karlee and me pioneer bonnets for what will become a new traditional pioneer trek every summer. And of course she made them in our favorite colors!
Tanner had to wait while everyone else opened gift, after gift. He requested some Vortex binoculars. They have a lifetime warranty and they will replace them no questions asked no matter what happens to them. This is the gift that more than ate up the budget, but as you can see he was pleased. That is all a parent can ask for.
Layne has been wanting a cot for camping for several years now. It is extra wide and long and comes with a foam pad, a side pouch for his gun and a rack that he can hang his clothes on.
Karlee testing out the new cot. Layne and I actually could spoon on it quite nicely too. So it got a thumbs up.
Layne couldn't resist trying on the pioneer bonnet.
Of course Crash couldn't be left out of the gift haul. He got a new bull whip and ball. He could play this for hours if only his humans would cooperate.
Once again the mean mom in me came out. Zak "jokingly" asked for a new bow. So I made sure he had it, even if it was a plastic toy! Shay got a stack of new shirts. I was nervous about buying for her but she liked all of it. She is pretty easy to please too, thankfully!
This is the gift that Layne picked out himself. This is why I got him the cot so he would actually be surprised about something for a change. Technically I am actually the registered owner of this Smith and Wesson 45 ACP. When he went to buy it he realized that his driver's license was expired. So, luckily I was there to give them mine. That is another first for me.
Zak and Shay worked together to rip off the fancy table cloth wrapping on this small deep freeze. The freezer in their fridge was overflowing. So now they can put this in their basement and have some more food storage room.
Finally we got the the last family gift, a ping pong table! Tanner asked for one several years ago and I found one on a great sale this year and decided to go for it.
It took a while to get it put together and Layne ended up fixing a few things since the boys were averse to reading the directions. But they have had a lot of fun with it.
Tanner has definitely gotten the most use out of it with his friends. They play what they call "sting ball." If you lose you have to lift your shirt and the winner gets to hit the ball as hard as they can at the loser's stomach. Lucky for Tanner he normally wins. Several of his friends had fifteen to twenty ping pong ball marks on their stomachs. I don't know why they put up with him, but I am glad they do!
My favorite part of the Christmas season is getting all the cards.
Here are the snowflakes that Karlee and Shay made for us
Zak and Shay gave us these pictures from their wedding and this beautiful picture of Christ. Frank and Jeannette added to our nativity they have been giving us for the last several years. We love these reminders of the real reason for the season.
Karlee got creative with the snow spray and snowflakes and covered every window in the house.
I love our little village. It makes me want to go back to a simpler time that it depicts
.
And of course our doll sheep has to get in on the holiday spirit!
