I really didn't say never, I knew it would happen. I was just hoping it wouldn't happen until at least April. Layne works with a lady that breeds dogs. She had a Rat Terrier returned from a family that couldn't keep it anymore. She was willing to give it to us for free. Free is the magic word for me. I don't want to pay for a dog that is probably going to end up dead on the road. So Buddy came into our family....for a couple of days. No he didn't get killed. But he was so jittery we thought he might have been abused. He was a year old, but he would not come when you called him and if you looked at him wrong he ran in the opposite direction. Yesterday was a nice day, so Layne put him outside on the leash. Somehow he got loose and we saw him heading towards Rexburg through the fields at a dead run. Layne and Tanner borrowed the neighbors snow machines and finally tracked him down. That was it for Buddy. Layne doesn't want a dog that won't come when he is called and won't even let you near him. So he took him back to the breeder today. She didn't think he had been abused, but admitted that he was a shy, jittery dog and that is why she gave him away for free. She figured he was better off with her anyway, and Layne said he perked right up when he was back with all the other dogs.
So of course the kids were on the Internet right away looking for another dog. They think they want a golden retriever. So we shall see what Layne brings home next.
